Conversational Leadership - Creating Wise Action and Change
-
Imagine an organization where all employees are heard, are energized, and are willing to act together. Imagine what could result, imagine the creativity, imagine the innovation, imagine... This is what the Art of Hosting is about, the art of leading by engaging and listening to stake-holders, convening people in order to create new collective intelligence, take wise actions and create sustainable solutions.

Originating out of the Berkana Institute, Margaret Wheatley, and close global colleagues the Art of Hosting is a participative experience that enhances your ability to work with others in more interactive, engaging and effective ways. It is being used globally in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South and North America, by corporate leaders, community leaders, consultants, educators, politicians, entrepreneurs, change agents, and social innovators.
This three day learning experience will look at a leadership approach that is based on convening strategic dialogues and conversations. Explore with us how to apply the practices of inviting, designing and hosting the tough conversations that really matter in these times of uncertainty to create energy and action to create innovative and sustainable solutions.
This experience will provide an opportunity to learn how to:
- Design and lead conversations and meetings that result in clearer thinking, intelligent solutions and group coherence.
- Host powerful conversations as a core leadership practice and skill set for leading change.
- Initiate interactive processes to generate fresh thinking, restore trust and create shared commitment to wiser action.
- Apply these tools in your work, organizations and communities, developing your skills and practices well beyond this gathering.
- Use the fundamental organizing patterns that invite profound shifts in how we can live and work together.
The Opportunity—Creating an Alberta Community of Practice
We have the opportunity to create in Alberta a community of practitioners trained in conversational group processes and committed to creating sustainable local networks and capacity. We recognize that more talk from experts and gurus is not what is needed right now. What we need is time together to figure out what to do differently for broad and sustainable change to occur in our organizations and communities. Alberta’s Art of Hosting practitioners are committed to a rich participative leadership culture in Alberta. This event builds on our originating event, Cultivating the Art of Hosting and Harvesting Conversations That Matter, February 10—12, 2010 at the Providence Centre, Edmonton, AB. We imagine what we can create here in Alberta as we continue to learn together, explore together, build our community together. We look forward to seeing you at one or both.
