Mental models are like a metaphore or a map a simplified picture used to try and explain a more complex reality.
Mental models can be used to establish a shared understanding of some of the basic assumptions that inspire our actions.
In other words, they define the place we are coming from.
Having shared mental models in a group or team allows us to act in alignment with each other.
Mental models are not absolute truths but describe the basis from which we operate at any given moment.
As our understanding changes our mental models change.
