What the eyes see...

Mental models are like a metaphore or a map – a simplified picture used to try and explain a more complex reality.

Mental models can be used to establish a shared understanding of some of the basic assumptions that inspire our actions.

– In other words, they define “the place we are coming from”.

Having shared mental models in a group or team – allows us to act in alignment with each other.

Mental models are not absolute truths – but describe the basis from which we operate at any given moment.

– As our understanding changes – our mental models change.
